“It’s A Wonderful Life”

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you could go back in time and change your life? How far would you go and what would you do different?

I used to always dream about going back to my childhood and tell my young self to stand up to all those bullies, not go away to boarding school, keep up with piano lessons and not let my family’s negativity affect me so much.

However, I realize that one little change affects the rest of your life. I probably wouldn’t have met or married my ex, but then again I probably wouldn’t have married my wonderful hubby either. I would have different friends and all of the good things of this life would be gone with the bad.

No, I am quite happy with the path I have travelled. It is better to make the changes in the here and now that you want than wish away all the good that has been part of your existence.

The movie in my title showed George Bailey what life would have been like without him in it.  In the end, he chose to go back and face his problems. When he did, they weren’t as bad as they had seemed because he knew he had people who loved him for who he was.

The “Back To The Future” series showed through comedy just how messing with the time continuum can wreak havoc on everything in it’s path. And there are many other examples in the world of movies, television and literature.

That’s just it! There are unlimited references to time travel in the world of make-believe and none in real life. I think that is more to do with the fact that it is futile than impossible (and I do believe it isn’t really probable, at least yet!).

I have had a rough go of it through my many decades on earth and still do. However, with all the pain, stress and other things I deal with daily I wouldn’t change a thing. I have come to a place where I really love my life.

So you won’t see me in line for the next guardian angel, DeLorean or even a Tardis. I am comfortable in my here and now!

Lydia!

  1. I love this, and I agree completely! There are a lot of things I would love to go back and change, but none of them would be worth not having James, Nancy, Andrew, Hannah, and Thomas!

  2. You’re so right!
The choices you made a few years ago still define who you are today. These choices have led me to meet wonderful people. And although those choices have also led me to meet some not-so-wonderful people, I wouldn’t change them for the world!

  3. I think about what it would be like if I had made different choices all the time! And I always come to the same conclusion…. all of those “mistakes” of the past have led to who I am and who my family is. My family is not a mistake. It is perfectly fine to change the way I make my decisions and live my life from here on out, though. Really good post!
