Music Monday – “It’s Out of My Hands”

My tribute to my young friend Doc today reminded me of a song that I used as part of a talk to our youth group way back when Doc was in grade 11 (I think). She worked the computer to show the lyrics while the song played.

I love this song. It is clearly about how we do better when we leave things to God. However, I think there is meaning in it for everyone.

Carolyn Arends is a local (Canadian West Coast) Christian and Folk singer. I have had a couple of opportunities to meet her and she is very genuine – the real deal. She lives the words she writes. She dedicated a whole album to the birth and raising of her children. Another fact I love about Carolyn Arends is that she writes a new Christmas song every year for her home church.

I hope you like her music as much as I do!

It’s Out of My Hands
words and music by Carolyn Arends and Spencer Capier

And so I stand here
Looking at all that I have made
Fallen in ruins
And it would seem that

It’s out of my hands
There’s nothing I can do
The best laid plans
Again have fallen through
I thought my world
Was under my command
Now I can’t believe
Just how glad I am
It’s out of my hands

My favourite delusion
I must control the universe
Failure brings freedom
You are God, and I’m not so

It’s out of my hands
There’s nothing I can do
The best laid plans
Again have fallen through
I thought my world
Was under my command
Now I can’t believe
Just how glad I am
It’s out of my hands

And so I stand here
Looking at all that You have made
Learning to place my
Life in your keeping

It’s out of my hands
I know this much is true
The best laid plans
All belong to You
When I know my world
Is under Your command
I can’t believe
Just how glad I am
It’s out of my hands

The best laid plans
Again have fallen through
I thought my world
Was under my command
Now I can’t believe
Just how glad I am
It’s out of my hands

    1. Daisy, I am sorry it is not working for you. I use Chrome and Explorer and it is working fine on all my computers (3 and a phone!) If you really want to see it, click on the link on her name in the top of the post and it should be on her website or youtube. Yes, the words on their own are powerful which is why I included both.

  1. This is beautiful! I will have to download for myself! Just confirmation that we don’t and can’t control it all! Resting in knowing God has the rest is really assuring to me. Thanks for sharing this!
