Well, it Song Lyric Sunday time once again. I have been waiting for this because I have had last week’s song running through my head constantly. I would much prefer Kelly Clarkson so here we go.
Helen from This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time has chosen “Think” as this week’s Lyric theme. I think it is a very good choice!
I love Kelly Clarkson. Her voice makes you not just hear the lyrics but feel them. This song is a good example of that. It also showcases her vocal range which was not coincidental. When Harloe (one of the writers) approached her with the song Kelly asked if the melody could be adjusted for her range – and the rest, as they say, is history!
The song tells of a romance gone wrong and how the injured party uses it to become a stronger, better person. “Honestly I’d do it all again, Puttin’ up with all the [BS], It made me strong enough to do this”. Talk is that it is based on Harloe’s own experience with love; however, others suggest it mirrors Kelly’s problems with her first record label (alluded to in the video). Either way, the combination works for a powerful ballad of triumph over tragedy and empowerment.
The song peaked at #14 on the US Adult Top 40 charts in 2017-18. The video debuted on YouTube in March 2018 to rave reviews.
I hope you like it as much as I do.

I Don’t Think About You
When you’re lost in the moment
You can’t see where you’re goin’
I didn’t know who I could trust
So I put all my faith in us
Oh, you tore me to pieces
Turned my strength into weakness
I didn’t want it all to fall apart
So I decided just to play the partBut honestly, I’d do it all again
Puttin’ up with all the bullshit
It made me strong enough to do thisIt used to bother me, thought I could never leave
After all that I’ve been through, nothin’ left to prove
No, no, no, I don’t think about you
Weighing down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through, nothin’ left to lose
No, no, no, I don’t think about youI feel freedom where I stand now
And I feel proud of who I am now
Yeah, I learned a lot along the way
I love the woman that I becameI was patient, but not anymore
It’s back in my hands
And you swore I’d never do it
But it’s your time to face the musicIt used to bother me, thought I could never leave
After all that I’ve been through, nothin’ left to prove
No, no, no, I don’t think about you
Weighing down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through, nothin’ left to lose
No, no, no, I don’t think about youIt was hard to hold on
Days and nights I thought I’d never make it at all
Couldn’t make it at all
Now I stand tall
Feeling like myself again, no worries at all
Breathe
No one can stop me from livin’ this moment for me
I found my heartbeat
After all that I’ve been through
No, I don’t think about youIt used to bother me, thought I could never leave
After all that I’ve been through, nothin’ left to prove
No, no, no, I don’t think about you
Weighing down on me
I found my sanity
And now that we are through, nothin’ left to lose
No, no, no, I don’t think about youI don’t think about you (no)
(No, no, no) No, no, no
(Not anymore) Not anymore
No, no, no, I don’t think about you

WOW! I haven’t really followed Kelly since I voted for her on American Idol. Maybe I’ll rethink that. This is a *great* song!

This song really capitalizes on her range and vocal strength. I noticed you used her last week. I have yet to check that one out!

It’s off her very first album, which is my favorite. But I will admit that I haven’t followed her new music quite as much.

Some of her new stuff is just as powerful. I keep meaning to download her latest collection but just haven’t had a chance.
