I am always excited Saturday evenings to find out what Helen of This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time has chosen for this week’s song lyric theme. And yesterday was no exception. I was thrilled to see the word “speak” and my song came to me immediately. However, I haven’t been feeling that great lately and I didn’t get it written up until now.
The song I have chosen is by a Christian group, Mercy Me. It has always spoken to me in the way that it talks about being at a loss for words and that’s okay because you are better equipped to listen.
While these words are used to describe a relationship with God, I think they can apply to almost any relationship. There are times where we just need to be silent and hear what the other person has to say. The lyrics talk about quieting the mind and voice in prayer so that God’s answers (or lack of them) can come through.
Mercy Me is a very popular Contemporary Christian group and have had some of their music cross over onto the Contemporary charts. Recently, their lead singer, Bart Millard, had a movie released based on the song “I Can Only Imagine”. The movie is about his relationship with his Dad and how writing the song helped him deal with that relationship.
“Word Of God Speak” reached No 1. on the Billboard Christian charts and remained on the charts for 78 weeks. It also won Song of the Year and Contemporary Song of the year at the 35 annual GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards in 2004.
No matter your beliefs, I hope you will give this a listen and that it meets you wherever you are.
Lydia
Word Of God Speak
I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s OK
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would sayOh word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see Your majesty
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speakI’m finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear You voiceWord of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see Your majesty
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holinessWord of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see Your majesty
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holinessI’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s OKRead more: MercyMe – Word Of God Speak Lyrics | MetroLyrics

Glad you liked it Suzette! Haven’t seen you around for awhile but then I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like to. Wow, that was a great job for your daughter. Little did they know back then how influential they would be with their music. I want to see the movie “I Can Only Imagine”.

I fell in love with “I Can Only Imagine” but I hadn’t heard any of their other songs. This is another beautiful song! I also think you’re right, it doesn’t have to just be about god. Thanks so much for sharing!
