Song Lyric Sunday – “Fear Is A Liar”

“I have been there – fear was my “best friend” for most of my life until a few years ago when I finally realized “he” was a liar and was able to rise above.”

When I first read that this week’s lyric theme was “fear”, I really wasn’t sure what I was going to do. A couple of songs came into my brain but I couldn’t identify enough with them to do them justice.

Well, hubby to the rescue again. He pulled up a song and as I heard it coming from his computer behind me I instantly knew that was my pick for the week.

Zach Williams is a Christian Rock singer/songwriter/musician and “Fear Is A Liar” is the third song off of his debut album “Chain Breaker”, released earlier this year. It peaked at No. 3 on the Contemporary Christian charts and is still in the top 20. There is talk that it could be up for a Grammy and most definitely a Dove (Christian Music) award.

The lyrics are very straightforward. The “he” refers to fear. Giving “him” human characteristics helps to bring it down to an approachable level where it can be “cast into the fire” or just dismissed. While the song is classified as Christian and mentions “Let Your fire fall” (referring in this case to God), it really has no boundaries and can speak for everyone.

The video, too, is universal. Three different stories where the person is letting fear push them into a corner they don’t think they can get out of. I have been there – fear was my “best friend” for most of my life until a few years ago when I finally realized “he” was a liar and was able to rise above.

I hope you enjoy it and will check out other Song Lyric Sunday selections at This Thing Called Life One Day At A Time. You may even decide to participate which would be awesome!

Fear Is A Liar

When he told you you’re not good enough
When he told you you’re not right
When he told you you’re not strong enough
To put up a good fight
When he told you you’re not worthy
When he told you you’re not loved
When he told you you’re not beautiful
That you’ll never be enough

Fear, he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear, he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar

When he told you were troubled
You’ll forever be alone
When he told you you should run away
You’ll never find a home
When he told you you were dirty
And you should be ashamed
When he told you you could be the one
That grace could never change

Fear, he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear, he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar

Let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel
Let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel
Let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel
Oh, let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel

Oh, fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear, he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar
‘Cause fear he is a liar

      1. Yes, I have! I keep a Christian radio station on in the car and I sometimes listen to Christian stations in the house, on Amazon Prime. His songs play quite often on them.
