Song Lyric Sunday – (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

Jim Adams, our newly crowned King of SLS (okay, maybe there isn’t a crown, but I think we could find a baton to pass), has picked “Animals” as the theme for this week. You can check out the rules, future topics and other bloggers’ takes on the topic at his blog, A Unique Title For Me.

Now many people may not classify a Teddy Bear as a true animal; however, I would beg to differ. Yes, they may be stuffed inside with batting and outside with more cuteness than any toy should be allowed to have. They are given to babies for comfort, young women as a token of love and people of any age who are needing cheering up.

Elvis Presley wanted to be someone’s Teddy Bear back in 1957 when he recorded the Bernie Lowe and Kal Mann penned song. It was a number one hit single for 7 weeks, one of four songs for Elvis to take the top spot on the charts that year.

A little trivia – among the many people to cover the song, McCartney and Wings recorded it in November 1970; however, the song was never released.

And by the way, Elvis, I think many young women would have gladly taken you as their Teddy Bear!

Lydia!

(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

Baby let me be
Your lovin’ Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
And lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear

I don’t wanna be a tiger
Cause tigers play too rough
I don’t wanna be a lion
‘Cause lions ain’t the kind
You love enough

I just wanna be
Your Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
And lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

Oh baby let me be
Around you every night
Run your fingers through my hair
And cuddle me real tight
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

I don’t wanna be a tiger
Cause tigers play too rough
I don’t wanna be a lion
Cause lions aren’t the kind
You love enou-ou-ou-ough

Just wanna be your Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
And lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
(Your teddy bear)
I just wanna
Be your Teddy Bear (ooh)
