Song Lyric Sunday – Stone Cold

Last week’s theme was Burn/Fire/Flame, so it is only fitting that Jim Adams would pick Freeze/Cold/Ice this week. If you would like to join in the fun or just look at other people’s picks be sure to check out Jim’s blog, A Unique Title For Me. You can find all the rules and topics for the next few weeks there.

I went in a different direction this week with Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold”. It was written by Lovato, Laleh Pourkarim, and Gustaf Thörn for her fifth album, “Confident,” in 2015. It is a lament to lost love and trying to turn off feelings by turning her heart to stone – “Maybe if I don’t cry, I won’t feel any more”.

“Stone Cold” really captures Demi’s incredible vocal range and ability to show true emotion. She has been quoted as saying that the song “is the type of song that I wanted people to feel in their hearts and ripped their guts out.”

Stone Cold

[Verse 1]
Stone cold, stone cold
You see me standing, but I’m dying on the floor
Stone cold, stone cold
Maybe if I don’t cry, I won’t feel any more

[Chorus]
Stone cold, baby
God knows I try to feel happy for you
Know that I am, even if I can’t understand
I’ll take the pain
Give me the truth
Me and my heart, we’ll make it through
If happy is her, I’m happy for you

[Verse 2]
Hmmm, stone cold, stone cold
You’re dancing with her, while I’m staring at my phone
Stone cold, stone cold
I was your amber, but now she’s your shade of gold

[Chorus]
Stone cold, baby
God knows I try to feel happy for you
Know that I am, even if I can’t understand
I’ll take the pain
Give me the truth
Me and my heart, we’ll make it through
If happy is her, I’m happy for you

[Outro]
Don’t wanna be stone cold, stone
I wish I could mend this, but here’s my goodbye
Oh, I’m happy for you
Know that I am, even if I can’t understand
If happy is her
If happy is her
I’m happy for you

    1. Oops, thank you. I did know that. I will blame my eyes, which are adjusting to cataract surgery and I am figuring out what strength of reading glasses I need to see the screen. That’s my story and I am sticking to it. I will change it now!

    1. Thank you. And I totally agree. They make more out of her mental health issues and really, that is where a lot of that emotion comes from. She channels it from her soul into every song she sings.
